Post-COVID Pivot & Direction

We hope we've seen the worst of COVID and that any fall/winter return is mild and manageable.

We have some post-COVID news to share.

Our initial vision for Adelante Studios was of a co-working community for the visual and performing arts, but the tools we had at hand were too static and time consuming to properly realize it. Nothing came of that and we settled into being yet another rental studio (albeit novel in combining dance and photography). Truth be told, that's neither challenging nor remunerative, particularly at this time.

The pandemic, with all of its business and personal losses, was also a time of assessment and reinvention. We assisted a few dance instructors in teaching online and in the course of that came across innovative tools and platforms that served them better and earned them more than what most instructors used the past year.

Our focus is now on doing something interesting and with longevity for us and our clients. With lessons learned, our new direction is to be both a physical and virtual community with resources for our clients to succeed in person and online.

Towards this, we've settled on the Ipso community and commerce platform for its range of tools and potential uses. We also have a commitment from its developers to cater to the needs of the fashion and dance industries.

Ipso (ipso.buzz) provides us a better means of communicating with clients and referring business to them. Event promoters may find it a good alternative to Eventbrite while content creators may find it better than Patreon. It's not inconceivable that in the future models and photographers would find it more useful than Instagram and Modelmayhem.

We invite all our clients to join and support the community and economy we are building and we hope that you do. Here's how we are starting.

Membership Model

We are switching to a membership model. The basic membership is a one time $10 and provides access to renting our studios. This applies to all our spaces and activities at Adelante Studios / Space-4-Shoots.

Other levels of membership will be offered and communicated through Ipso in the coming weeks.

Here's how to join:

  • Create an Ipso account and profile at https://ipso.buzz (name, email, password, and the profile name you want).

  • For the $10 photography/casting related membership, go here and tap on the $ icon to pay using a credit card. You can optionally follow Space-4-Shoots while there.

  • For the $10 dance related membership, go here and tap on the $ icon to pay using a credit card. You can optionally follow Adelante Studios while there.

  • Your credit card payment is processed securely by Stripe.

  • Note that Adelante's and Space-4-Shoots' Ipso profiles can also display our recent Instagrams. That's an optional feature of Ipso to get added exposure for your work.

Resources

Some of the resources we've added:

  • Zoom licenses, video storage, and live-streaming hardware available for use by our members.

  • Updated AV system for dance events, workshops, and fashion shows.

We are super excited about this and hope you'll support us in this new beginning and you'll join us in creating a synergistic community of talent and practice around Adelante Studios / Space-4-Shoots.

December 21: Space-4-Shoots Holiday & Networking Party with $1,000 in Raffles 12/21/17!

• What: Showcase of people's work (bring up to 10 photos on a USB stick and we'll project them) • networking • holiday cheer • food and soft drinks (BYOB) • DJ music.

• What else: Raffles!  There will be several raffles at the party.  All selection with be done via the VibeChat app for iPhone users and via CallThere for Android users:

  1. $100 Raffles for models "by luck":  Two models at the party will be selected via VibeChat/CallThere and each gets to pick a photographer at the party that agrees to shoot with them for 1 hour at a future date.  The model gets $100 and the photographer gets two hours of photo studio time ($100 value).

  2. $100 Raffles for models "by look":  Two photographers at the party will be selected via VibeChat/CallThere and each gets to pick a model at the party that agrees to shoot with them for 1 hour.  The model gets $100 and the photographer gets two hours of photo studio time ($100 value).

  3. $100 Raffles for makeup artists and stylists:  Two makeup artists/stylists will be selected via VibeChat/CallThere and each gets 2 hours of of photo studio time ($100 value).

The raffle winners will be selected via the VibeChat app (for iPhone users) and via the CallThere app (for Android users). 

Many of our clients already use VibeChat and CallThere to get live support (instant messaging and voice).  At the party, we'll use them in reverse to select the winners (we'll send messages or call, and the first that replies in each category wins).

Team Space-4-Shoots & Adelante Studios

New: Space-4-Shoots TimeLapse!

We are excited to announce Space-4-Shoots TimeLapse - the option to have an affordable time-lapse record of your shoot, casting, or other event at Space-4-Shoots!  Upon request, we set up a dedicated time-lapse camera that records a HD video at 30x speed.  Our wide angle time-lapse camera is completely portable and you can reposition it throughout your shoot to capture all of the action, so chronicling your production has never been easier.  Space-4-Shoots TimeLapse is great for archival purposes, promotional material, or just capturing comprehensive behind-the scenes footage, and will beautifully document your photo shoot, rehearsal, dance class, or event. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tggzfBhLT6A

We are currently offering Space-4-Shoots TimeLapse under two options.

1. Raw video:  You get the full time-lapse video at the end of your shoot.  Just $20 for a 2-hour shoot, $30 for a 4-hour shoot, and $50 for an 8-hour shoot!  Bring a laptop or an external drive to copy it on.

2. Edited video:  Our second option provides a basic video production, including a musical soundtrack, cutting out dead time frames (lunch breaks, makeup/wardrobe, etc), and creating titles/ending credits for a more polished finished product..

Space-4-Shoots transitions to all Profoto strobes

PFD1500KIT It's time to retire our Calumet Genesis 200 watt-second strobes which, after many years of use and with Calumet closing, have become difficult to maintain.

Starting December 1st, 2014, Space-4-Shoots is transitioning to use of all Profoto lighting.  The Profoto D1 Air strobes are newer, quicker to set up, easier to control remotely, and provide far better and more consistent light temperature, coverage, and power.

For a limited time (until December 31, 2015), we are renting the Profoto D1 Air 500 watt-second moonlights for just $10 each (including stands and light modifiers).  Adorama, Manhattan's lowest cost rental store, rents the same strobes for $25/day.

As any experienced photographer would know, Profotos at $10 each are a better value than Calumet Genesis lights for free.

The Calumet Genesis lights will no longer be available, except as backup if we are short on Profoto lights during the transition.

Jobs at Space-4-Shoots / Adelante Studio

Photo Studio Assistant / Community Management Assistant: Part time to full time position with the following responsibilities:

  1. Photo studio management:
    • Shoot setup/breakdown.
    • Shoot support
    • Equipment maintenance
  2. Community Management:
    • Social media posting/BTS
    • Social media engagement
    • Community event planning

Photo/fashion industry experience a plus (photography, modeling, makeup) but not required.

Self motivation, attention to detail, verbal and written communication skills required.

October 5: Space-4-Shoots Networking Party!

-  When: Saturday October 5th, 8 pm till the last person leaves.

-  Where: At Stepping Out Studios 37 W 26th Street (between Sixth and Broadway), 9th floor.

-  What: Showcase of everyone's work. Bring photos on your mobile phone or tablet and there'll be a way to project them on a screen.  Food and soft drinks (BYOB), music, Tango  dance show.

-  What else: Bring your dance shoes! In the adjacent ballroom and till 3 am, there's Toda La Noche, the popular Salsa/Bachata dance party. Space-4-Shoots guests get $5 off its $10 cover.

-  Cost: It's free, but you have to bring with you one of your favorite counterparts in the business!  Photographers, bring a favorite model or MUA.  Models, bring a favorite photographer, or MUA, etc.

Special $20/hour for up-and-coming talent!

To encourage up-and-coming photographers and models, Space-4-Shoots is offering a $20/hour rental for shoots that meet the following criteria (all must apply without exception to qualify for the $20/hour rate):

  1. Only one photographer and one model in the shoot.
  2. One makeup artist is allowed, but not any other/additional people (i.e, no friends, chaperone, stylist, second model, etc.)
  3. Minimum 2 hours, maximum 3 hours.
  4. Use of only 1 of our strobes (you can bring your own).
  5. The photographer and model (as well as the MUA if present) must have applicable profiles on the Vibe app (free and easy to create). Note there are no exceptions to this.
  6. May not be combined with another shoot.

To book a $20/hour slot, use our contact form and be sure to include the Vibe profile names of the photographer and model (and MUA if applicable).

August 9: Space-4-Shoots Networking Party!

-  Showcase of photographers, models, and MUA's work. Bring your photos on your iPhone/iPad/iPod or Android and there'll be a way to project them on the wall.  There'll also be a way to share your business card info if you wish.

-  Two raffles where a model can win a $150 towards a shoot either by “look” or by “luck” with talented photographers at the party.  Raffle times are 10 and 11 pm.  There will also be a special raffle for MUAs and hair stylists!
